The Day We Got "THE CALL" - July 17, 2013 & Our Trip to Grand Junction

The day we had been waiting for finally arrived! Tuesday, July 17, 2013 will be a day that we treasure for the rest of our lives. Eric had come home early to go on a bike ride and I had been working on my daily "to-do" list. Davis was at Mimi and PaPows, like he always is, on a Tuesday. I had just finished drying my hair and was getting dressed when the home phone rang. I saw that it was a Denver area cell phone, so I answered it. It was the call that changed out life forever.

Bobbi (the Grand Junction case worker) and Beth (the Director at HP) called to say that a mom had given birth at 34 weeks and 5 days to a perfectly healthy baby boy....and his mom picked US as his forever family. I froze and cried. I literally couldn't think straight. When I finally composed myself I asked them to repeat what they had already told me and I started writing it all down.....he was healthy but in the NICU because he was on a feeding tube....the most well behaved boy in the nursery....mom's name is Sarah...he was absolutely adorable...would we want to meet her?..how quickly could we get there?....The answer to the last two questions was "YES!" and "we can be there tomorrow morning!".

So, we canceled all of our plans for the next few weeks and packed our bags for the journey of a lifetime. God had finally answered our prayers and we were less than 24 hours away from meeting the mom who would end up giving us the greatest gift anyone could ever give, and meeting our new son....Jack Oliver May.

I have so many more details to share about this amazing journey, but it would take years to write about everything we experienced along the way. I have a journal where we wrote about all the details of our journey in Grand Junction...some day I will give it to Jack. Since I don't have years to write and the words would never do it justice, I'm going to post photos and trust that anyone reading this knows just how sacred this journey was and just how amazing we think Sarah (his mom) is. Yes, I call her his mom. She is technically his" birth mom", but she will always be his mom, his first mom. I treasure that and honor it. We think they world of her and words will never express how much we love her and the gratitude we feel in our hearts for her.

The day we got the call. Eating dinner at Chipotle before going home to pack.
A photo with Sarah after milkshakes at Denny's where she "chose" us!

The very first time any of us ever saw Jack!
The first time I held Jack.

The first time Eric held Jack.
The first time Davis met Jack.
Sweet baby Jack. He had a feeding tube and must have just had a bath because his oxygen was off.
Sarah holding Jack before he was discharged.
Going home!
