There was not a dull moment in November and it aged me 5 years. Here's why...stitches.
One evening Eric and I were discussing the budget. Davis knows enough about the budget to know that we are talking about money. So, he runs upstairs and within a few minutes we hear a thud and a cry. We race upstairs to see him on the floor but no worse for the wear. Whew! We asked him what he was doing when he fell. In typical Davis fashion he reenacted the event. Eric and I watch him (yes, we WATCHED him) climb up his dresser and he was explaining that he was trying to get his pennies (in his piggy bank, on top of the dresser) so he could talk with us about money. He reaches the top successfully and as we watched him start to climb down I thought to myself "huh...I really should bolt this dresser to the wall so it doesn't topple over and crush him.". Just as I thought that he lost his footing climbing down and "bumped" his knee on a drawer that was slightly open. He didn't cry and didn't appear to be in any pain. We rolled up his pant legs and were sick to see a gash that we knew needed stitches. We tries to talk ourselves out of him needing stitches...after all...how do you really know if you need stitches? No one ever teaches you that in school. Despite our best efforts to avoid the ER...we needed to go. The rest of the story is about a painful and you think it is...Davis doesn't know what he's getting into...followed by him realizing what is happening with THAT needed....followed by the numskull nurse who didn't give him enough of the pain killing injection...followed by more of Davis screaming....followed by me leaving the room so I could cry in the hollow empty hallway....followed by a popsicle and sticker.
The good news is that we have our "first stitches" under our belt. Hopefully the next time will be easier.

When Davis was little (well, littler than he is now) he LOVED Max and Ruby. So, when the Max and Ruby Show came to the Union Colony stage in Greeley...we had to be there! We got front row seats (you know, the expensive ones) which he decided weren't nearly as cool as the ones on the balcony (you know, the cheap ones). We spent the first half of the show in the front row seats and the second half in the balcony.
Davis and his best buddy Owen playing at our house:
Davis and Owen started Hockey this month (okay, it's actually "Learn to Skate" but Davis thinks "Hockey" is better).
Ah yes, then we have "the paint project" which should more appropriately be called "the dust project". The banister we have leading up our stairs were originally stained a light Oak-ish color...which we loved for many years. But, it got to the point where it was looking worn and dated so we decided to hire a PROFESSIONAL painter to have the banister sanded, primed and painted white. The end result of the FIRST time they did the project was deplorable. The paint job was terrible but the worst part was the dust! As a side note: the company that did this (Vyvax) is a well known and reputable painting company. When they sanded the railings they didn't conceal the dust in their work area so the entire house (that is no exaggeration) was covered in a thick layer of sanding dust. Long story short...they fixed the paint job (it looks beautiful...now) and paid $200 for a house cleaner and the CEO called to apologize. Needless to say, I won't be hiring them again.
Here is a photo from the Thanksgiving Feast at Davis' preschool. Grandma came with us but I didn't get a photo of her. Bummer.
Oh, and one of the best "take aways" from November....our family photos. They were amazing!
This year marked our 4th year of attending the Castle Rock Starlighting. Every year this is such a great event that really gets us into the Christmas spirit. This year (like every other year) we shared the memory making with the Whitaker family.
I think the guy that took this last photo was drunk. ;0)
And, finally, the highlight of the month. He asked (on Thanksgiving), and she said YES! Sara and Ben are getting married June 24, 2012!
The day after Thanksgiving the newest addition to our family arrived....Jingle. Our very own Elf on the Shelf! There will be more photos of him to follow in December.
