Mimi (grandma Jeannie), Davis and I wanted to get in a good day at the zoo before the weather started turning cold so we headed down to Colorado Springs. The zoo is actually built on a the side of a mountain...so don't think you're going for a nice "leisurely walk around the grounds". This place is all hills, trees and animals. Their best exhibit (by far) is the giraffes. You can buy 3 crackers for $1 and feed the giraffes. Yep! You can FEED them! It is awesome!
While we didn't see any tigers, and the elephant exhibit was lacking excitement, there were so many other great things to see and do. They have an entire area just for kids. There is a playground and an exhibit called "My Backyard" where they have chickens, goats, Koi fish and pot belly pigs. And, you can touch all of them! They also have an exhibit that you walk through with Wallaby's - where there are no fences. You can go right up and touch the little hoppers! If you like birds they also have a great bird exhibit with small birds where you can buy a stick with bird food on the end and they fly down for a snack and perch on the stick. Awesome!
The zoo also has a tot train (it wasn't working the day we were there) and a carousel (which Davis went on, but wasn't a fan of).
So, if you ever need a zoo buddy for the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo - call US! We loved it!!
