'Something New' is Retiring

When I first started this blog a few years ago I updated it far more often than I do now. I have (soon to be 'had') a section where I posted new things that Davis learned and cute things he said. Since "firsts" are now few and far between, I have decided to retire the "Something New" portion of this blog. But, before I do, I want to capture the new things he did here because when I print this blog each year it doesn't print the sidebar where it was written. Here it is...

  • Remembering: The other day Eric reminded me that Davis used to say "gagues" rather than "crackers"...oh how I hope I never forget those precious things!
  • 6.8.10 - Here are a few funny things Davis has said lately: "I want one more minute!" (after playing outside...see...he's listening to me even when he acts like he's not), "this is the last ball, make it count" (when he was done playing baseball with Eric and I)
  • 3.28.10 - After spending the weekend with grandma and grandpa Davis came home saying "Now that's what I'm talkin' about". It's like Davis opened his mouth but my mom's words came out. So TOTALLY says that!
  • 3.11.10 - At the PSA commercial audition they wanted Davis to say "Hey! Where do you think you're going?" I said to Davis, "Davis, SAY 'Hey, where do you think you're going'?. Instead of repeating it, he ANSWERED the question with "to get my pictures taken". It was SO adorable. And, yep, that's what I told him before the audition...that we were going to have our pictures taken.
  • 3.10.10 - Cute things Davis has said over the past few months that I put in my BlackBerry but not on the blog: "I have pick-ups" (I have hiccups), "Say excuse me, mommy", "Thas enough!", "I don't wike it", "I don't fwink so", "Stop doing with that", "Easy now, wait a minute", "I love you Diggy, I love you", "oh sh*t" (wonder where he got that!)
  • Seriously? The last time I updated this was in DECEMBER? It's APRIL for crying out loud! I guess the novelty starts to ware off with "new" stuff. That, or I'm doing a better job of BEING in the moment rather than trying to document all the moments.
  • 12.5.09 - We have an advent calendar that counts down the days until Christmas. We have a mini chocolate bar behind each day's door. After he figured out that he LOVES chocolate, all he does is ask for "calendar" which actually sounds more like "candle". As I was unwrapping the bar he said "I want that here on my mouth". So cute!
  • My last post was in September? Shame on me!
  • 9.29.09 - New sentences - "A bit bright" is what he said while covering his eyes yesterday as he was talking about the sun, "1, 2, 3....I'm counting!", "Mommy has seatbelt on.", "Mommy in front seat."
  • 9.28.09 - Davis LOVES limes. Instead of describing them as "sour" (a.k.a. souie) he calls them "spicy". So cute! I need to get a pic of him eating one!
  • Week of 9.14.09 - Over the past week Davis has said some of the funniest things! See below...
  • When I tucked him into bed a few nights ago he had his stuffed doggie in the crib and said to me "put the doggie under the blanket, too!"
  • Davis asked for "more shot" (flu shot, that is) because he wanted another sucker!
  • He can now say "Chick-Fil-A"...that's my boy!
  • He knows the colors red, green, blue, purple and orange.
  • Oh! I don't want to forget that Davis is trying to pronounce his name correctly. He usually says "day-sis" but has said "Davis" correctly a few times this week.
  • 9.6.09 - Davis is 20 months this week! He is now saying "The sun is bright", "Excuse me, please", "Thanks daddy/mommy".
  • 8.26.09 - other things he is saying - eskimo kisses, reach it, touch it, sandbox, go outside, no! no! no! no!, see daddy, I do it, see the moon, moon is bright...the list goes on...
  • 8.26.09 - Davis can finally say "grandma" and "grandpa" - which are my parents. Eric's parents are Mimi and Papao.
  • 8.26.09 - All summer long Davis and Mimi have taken drives through Daniels Gate to look for buffalo. This week they saw a mommy and baby. Davis calls a buffalo, "bo-sis". I know. It doesn't make any sense. But it's adorable!
  • 8.24.09 - Davis looked like he was chewing on something he shouldn't have (everything goes in his mouth). When I asked him what he had (and told him to spit it out) his response was "tongue". He was right. Pretty smart cookie.
  • 8.24.09 - Davis now says "thanks" when you give him something. "Thanks, mommy!"
  • 8.4.09 - Everything is "no" and "mine". Still loves airplanes and can spot them when they are just a spec in the sky.
  • 7.21.09 - Davis LOVES airplanes. When he hears one he searches the sky until he finds it. He says "e-pleen in da sky". So cute!
  • 7.20.09 - Everything is "mine". This should be fun.
  • 7.12.09 - Davis can count to 10.
  • 7.9.09 - Daivs is getting better at using a fork and spoon. All he wants to do is talk about golf, shoot the hoop, baseball and soccer ball. We removed the gate from the stairs and he is starting to show off a bit that he can climb them when he wants. He loves to have snack at his picnic table in the back yard.
  • 7.1.09 - "airplane" is "e-pleen"
  • 6.19.09 - New "sentences" include: shoot the hoop, play golf, I see, go bye-bye and Tela go!
  • 5.18.09 - Davis' 1st sentences are "I shoot" and "He shoot". Clearly this kid has basketball in his blood just like daddy and Flossie.
  • 4.24.09 - Davis can now say: yellow, pizza, blue, up, down, kitty, doggie, catsup, eat, snack, socks, shoe, coat, snow, no (and more!). He can also say the sounds that these animals make: cow, horse, duck, snake, kitty and rooster.
  • 4.24.09 - Davis likes to eat dirt.
  • 3.29.09 - Davis can now say: cracker, green bean, moon, car, juice, home and star.
  • 3.28.09 - Davis dropped his morning nap and now naps in the afternoon from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm
  • 3.27.09 - Davis has "mastered" the jump shot.
  • 2.20.09 - Davis' new words: "boots", "home" and "oh sh*t" - wonder where he got the last one (hint: it's not daddy)
  • 2.7.09 - I said "Look Davis, I found the cow that goes with your tractor" and he responded with "Moo"! How cute is that? It's the first time he said an animal sound.
  • 2.5.09 - Davis point to the god and the bee (by name) in "The Bee & Me" book
  • 2.4.09 - Davis points to "keys" (by name) in the book "Goodnight Gorilla"
  • 1.27.09 - It's been a while since I've updated this. Since my last update he is walking, running, closing (slamming) doors, saying "keys", "night-night", "da da", "shoe", "socks", "book", "bear" and of course "no". He also points at the things he wants, knows to go upstairs and sit on his chair when we say "night-night", waves and says "bye bye" when someone leaves. Whew! I'm sure there is more I am forgetting....
  • 12.1.08 Davis took 4 steps (without help). Of course, he was walking to daddy.
  • 12.8.08 WOW! Sorry - no updates in over a month! This time of year is busy...
  • 10.26.08 - Davis is getting himself around the room by holding on to furniture and walking sideways to where he wants to go.
  • 10.25.08 - Diggy can stand on his own. Eric counted his standing for 22 seconds.
  • 10.20.08 - Davis started holding his bottle and sippy cup without any help.
  • 10.11.08 - We went to our very first pumpkin patch with Aunt Suzie and Pat. It was drizzly and cold but we had a blast!
  • 10.10.08 - Davis holds a toy in his mouth so he can have both hands free to play.
  • 10.13.08 - Davis says "hi" and waves to anyone coming or going.
  • 10.4.08 - If you hold three books out in front of Davis he will pick which of the three he wants you to read. If Brown Bear is one of them, he'll pick it fist every time!
  • October - Davis is known as "Nosy Rosy" because he is always interested in what complete strangers are doing.
  • This week (first week of October) Davis has learned how to climb the stairs by himself. Don't worry we are right behind him!
  • Davis' first official word is "ut-oh". He said it on September 24th. He uses the word when he drops something.
  • So now he is doing this new thing (as of Sept 15th) where he trys to stand on his own - not holding on to anything. He gets a "A" for effort...but he thinks he is more ready than he really is.
  • Davis just learned how to point at things (Sept 17th). He loves to point at lights and fans.
  • Davis now has six teeth (Sept 16th)! And we think there may be more on the way!
  • 9.13.08 - Davis intentionally claps his hands.
  • 9.6.08 was Davis' first swim lesson at the Lone Tree Rec Center
  • As of Wednesday, August 27th Davis is technically crawling! It's more of a scoot/bounce/arm crawl. But, it gets him from A to B.
  • Yesterday (August 18th) Davis pushed himself up to a sitting position for the first time.
  • Davis cut his first tooth on Friday (July 25th) and is saying "ba ba"
  • Lately D has been smacking his lips. I'd like to think he's trying to kiss me, but I doubt it.
  • July 10, 2008 - Lately Dig thinks it's funny to stick out his tongue and blow...with food in his mouth. Maybe if I stopped laughing at him, he'd stop.
  • July 8, 2008 - Davis sat up on his own
  • D squeals like a cat not just when he's tired, but now also when he's hungry.
  • Reached for the carrots to try to feed himself
  • June 28, 2008 - tried carrots for the first time and liked them
  • June 21, 2008 - rolled over from back to front
